Met-Ed Price to Compare & How to Switch Electric Suppliers
Met-Ed's price for electricity goes up on December 1.
Here's what Met-Ed's Price to Compare is today, what it changes to on December 1, 2026, and how to switch to a fixed-rate supplier without any interruption to your service.
What is Met-Ed's Price to Compare?
Met-Ed delivers electricity to homes in eastern and south-central Pennsylvania. Since January 1, 2024, Met-Ed has been part of FirstEnergy Pennsylvania, but it still has its own Price to Compare. If you haven't picked an electric supplier, Met-Ed also supplies the electricity itself, at its default rate. That rate is called the Price to Compare, or PTC. It's the cents-per-kilowatt-hour (kWh) figure a supplier offer has to beat for you to save on the supply part of your bill.
The PTC covers supply only, meaning generation plus transmission. Met-Ed's delivery (distribution) charges stay on your bill no matter who supplies your power.
Met-Ed's residential Price to Compare, now and on December 1, 2026
| Period | Residential PTC | Status |
|---|---|---|
| June 1 – Nov. 30, 2026 | 13.951¢/kWh | Current |
| Dec. 1, 2026 – May 31, 2027 | 14.422¢/kWh | Filed, starts Dec. 1 |
Sources: FirstEnergy's Price to Compare table for its Pennsylvania utilities (June 2026 and December 2026 periods) and FirstEnergy Pennsylvania's December 1, 2026 Price to Compare filing. The December figure is the rate FirstEnergy filed with the PA PUC. FirstEnergy's sample calculation sheets are marked "for illustrative purposes only," so check your bill once it takes effect. The figures don't include a tiny state tax adjustment of less than 0.1¢.
That's an increase of about 0.47¢ per kWh, or roughly 3.4%. A home using 700 kWh a month would pay about $3.30 more per month for supply on Met-Ed's default rate.
When does Met-Ed's Price to Compare change?
FirstEnergy says its Pennsylvania utilities' Price to Compare changes twice a year, in June and December. The new price takes effect on June 1 and December 1 and can go up or down each time, depending mostly on what was paid for power at the utility's default-service auctions. A fixed-rate plan from a supplier locks your supply price for the length of your contract, so Met-Ed's price changes don't affect you while that contract lasts.
How to switch electric suppliers in Met-Ed territory
- Find your Met-Ed Price to Compare and your usage. Look on the first page of your Met-Ed bill, in the Price to Compare message box, or use the table above.
- Check your current contract, if you already have a supplier. Look for the end date and any early cancellation fee. Pennsylvania waives those fees during the last 30 days of a contract.
- Compare fixed-rate offers against Met-Ed's Price to Compare, including the new December 1 price. The state's official comparison site is PAPowerSwitch.com.
- Sign up with the supplier you choose. You'll need your 20-digit Met-Ed customer number. FirstEnergy says it's on page 3 of your bill, under the heading Basic Charges.
- Watch for your disclosure statement. The supplier must send you written terms. You have a 3-business-day window to change your mind after you enroll.
After that, the supplier and Met-Ed handle the switch. FirstEnergy says it will send you a letter to confirm you chose the new supplier. Under Pennsylvania's accelerated switching rules, a switch can take effect in about three business days once Met-Ed is notified. Your bill will show the new supplier's rate from the effective date on.
