Frequently asked questions

What is the Price to Compare?

It's your electric utility's default price for electricity supply, in cents per kWh. If you haven't chosen a supplier, you pay this price. A supplier's offer has to come in below it for you to save on the supply part of your bill.

Why are Pennsylvania electricity prices changing on December 1, 2026?

Most Pennsylvania utilities reset their Price to Compare on June 1 and December 1, based mostly on what they paid for power at auction. For December 1, 2026, PECO, Duquesne Light, Met-Ed, Penelec, Penn Power and West Penn Power have all posted or filed higher residential prices.

Does switching suppliers change who delivers my electricity?

No. Your utility still delivers your electricity, reads your meter, handles outages and sends your bill. Only the company that supplies the electricity changes.

How can I lock in my price?

A fixed-rate plan from a licensed supplier keeps the same supply price for the length of the contract, so your utility's June and December changes don't affect you while it lasts. Check for cancellation, monthly and enrollment fees before you sign.
